Who MyRental is and who prepares your report
MyRental.com is an online tenant screening service for landlords, real estate agents and property managers, with a free online rental application. Its packages can include a credit report, a TU Rental Score, income insights, multi-state criminal and sex offender checks, housing court (eviction) data, and the proprietary SafeRent Score.
The site says MyRental is a trademark of SafeRent Solutions, LLC, and its consumer relations page says SafeRent Solutions, “a specialty consumer reporting agency,” prepares the reports that go to rental housing providers. The CFPB’s list of consumer reporting companies says SafeRent Solutions has been acquired by Park Hill Holdings.
So when a landlord screens you through MyRental, SafeRent Solutions is the consumer reporting agency responsible for the report and for your dispute. For more, see our guide to SafeRent Solutions. SafeRent says it resells credit information from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, does not maintain that bureau data itself, and does not keep criminal data until a screening report is ordered.
The SafeRent score settlement
In Louis v. SafeRent Solutions (D. Mass., No. 1:22-cv-10800), rental applicants and advocates alleged that SafeRent’s screening score had a disparate impact on Black and Hispanic applicants who used housing vouchers, in violation of the Fair Housing Act and state law. In 2023 the court denied SafeRent’s motion to dismiss the Fair Housing Act claims, and it granted final approval of a $2.275 million class settlement on November 20, 2024, according to plaintiffs’ counsel. That case was a fair housing case, not an FCRA case, but it shows how much weight a screening score can carry and why the records behind it need to be right.
Errors that show up on tenant screening reports
- Incomplete eviction records. A housing court filing reported without the dismissal, settlement or judgment for the tenant.
- Wrong-person records. Criminal or eviction cases of someone with a similar name or birth date.
- Duplicates. One court case listed more than once.
- Bad credit data. Collections or accounts that are not yours pulling down your score.
- Score driven by errors. A low SafeRent Score built on records that should not be there.
- Obsolete records. Arrests and other non-conviction records older than seven years.
How to dispute MyRental
- Confirm the screening company. The landlord’s adverse action notice should name the company. For MyRental reports, that is SafeRent Solutions.
- Request your consumer file. Call SafeRent Consumer Support at 1-888-333-2413, or complete SafeRent’s Consumer Disclosure Request Form and email it with supporting documents to [email protected]. SafeRent says your consumer file is generated and sent within three business days of receiving your written request. The CFPB notes SafeRent provides one free copy of your file every 12 months on request.
- File a dispute with SafeRent. SafeRent’s consumer support page provides a Dispute Request Form. Send it with your documents by email to [email protected], by fax to (877) 204-9871, or by mail to the Consumer Support Department, P.O. Box 3890, Coppell, TX 75019.
- Attach proof. Dismissal or sealing orders, judgments in your favor, a payment ledger, ID, and proof that a record belongs to someone else.
- Dispute credit data with the bureau too. If a credit account is wrong, dispute it with the bureau that reported it. SafeRent says it notifies the bureau when your dispute involves credit bureau information.
- Keep copies of everything. The denial, the notice, your file, the forms you sent and every response.
- Hold SafeRent to the timeline. SafeRent says a reinvestigation will be completed within 30 days from the date it receives your request, consistent with 15 U.S.C. § 1681i(a)(1).

- Adverse action notice (§ 1681m). A landlord that denies you or imposes worse terms based on a report must name the screening company and explain your right to a free copy and to dispute.
- Free report (§ 1681j). You are entitled to a free copy within 60 days after an adverse action notice, and to free annual disclosures from specialty reporting companies as the statute provides.

- Reporting time limits (§ 1681c). Arrest records and most other adverse non-conviction information generally cannot be reported after seven years.
Can you sue MyRental?
Yes, when the facts support it, and the defendant is usually SafeRent Solutions, which prepares MyRental reports. You may have an FCRA claim if SafeRent reported inaccurate information without reasonable procedures to assure accuracy, or did not reasonably reinvestigate after you disputed.
For a negligent violation, you may recover actual damages, such as lost housing, application fees, higher deposits or rent, moving costs, and emotional distress, plus attorney’s fees and costs (15 U.S.C. § 1681o). For a willful violation, you may recover actual damages or statutory damages of $100 to $1,000, punitive damages, and fees and costs (§ 1681n). The Louis settlement above is the court-approved resolution we found involving SafeRent’s screening.
An FCRA lawsuit generally must be filed within two years after you discover the violation and no more than five years after it occurred (15 U.S.C. § 1681p).

Questions about suing MyRental
Can I sue MyRental?
Yes, if the facts support it, but the company you would sue is SafeRent Solutions. MyRental is a SafeRent trademark, and SafeRent's MyRental consumer page says SafeRent, a specialty consumer reporting agency, prepares the reports. You may have a claim if it reported inaccurate information without reasonable procedures or failed to reasonably reinvestigate your dispute.
Isn't MyRental a CoreLogic product?
MyRental's legal disclaimers page still names CoreLogic, Inc. in its copyright infringement (DMCA) section. But MyRental.com says MyRental is a trademark of SafeRent Solutions, LLC, its footer copyright belongs to SafeRent, and the CFPB says SafeRent Solutions has been acquired by Park Hill Holdings.
My credit report is wrong too. Will SafeRent fix it?
SafeRent says it resells information from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, and that credit bureau information is not maintained by SafeRent. If a credit account is wrong, dispute it with the bureau that supplied it as well as with SafeRent. SafeRent says it notifies the bureau when you dispute bureau data with it.
What does it cost to bring a case?
There is no fee unless we win. FCRA Attorneys handles these cases on contingency, and the FCRA lets a successful consumer recover reasonable attorney's fees and costs from the company.
