CCC Verify · Employment and income verification

Denied because of a wrong CCC Verify job or pay record?

CCC Verify, from Corporate Cost Control, part of Experian, provides employment and wage information to lenders, property managers, public assistance agencies and others. If your CCC Verify record is wrong and the company won't fix it, the Fair Credit Reporting Act lets you sue.

Who CCC Verify is and who relies on its reports

CCC Verify is an employment verification service provided by Corporate Cost Control, whose mailing address is in Londonderry, New Hampshire. The CFPB’s list of consumer reporting companies says CCC Verify is part of Experian, and Experian named Corporate Cost Control in 2021 as one of the acquisitions behind its Employer Services business.

According to the CFPB, CCC Verify provides employment and wage information to lenders, property managers, public assistance agencies and others. CCC Verify says it gives authorized and credentialed verifiers access to employment verifications, income verifications and dates of employment, and health and dental insurance enrollment status for government verifiers only.

The job and pay records come from employers that are CCC Verify clients. When you apply for a loan, an apartment or public benefits, the lender, landlord or agency may check those records instead of calling your employer. If the pay, dates or employer on file are wrong, you can be denied or approved for less than you qualify for. Your CCC Verify record is separate from your Experian credit report and from The Work Number.

Errors that show up on CCC Verify records

  • Wrong pay. An hourly rate, salary, hours or year-to-date income that is too low or out of date.
  • Wrong dates. A hire date or end date that is off, or a current job shown as ended.
  • Wrong employer or title. A job you never held listed under your name.
  • Mixed records. Another employee’s records attached to your file.
  • Stale data. Income that does not reflect a raise, a promotion or a new job.
  • Shallow dispute handling. A dispute closed without checking with the employer.

How to dispute CCC Verify

  1. Find out which service was used. The CFPB suggests asking the lender, landlord or employer which screening companies it used.
  2. Register and review your record. If your current or past employer is a CCC Verify client, register at cccverify.com/Employee/Register. CCC Verify says that after you log in you can see your own information and who has viewed it, block access, and dispute errors.
  3. Dispute each error. Use the dispute option in your CCC Verify account, or call 855-901-3099 (Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm ET). Identify each wrong item and explain the correct information.
  4. Put it in writing too. Mail a dispute with copies of pay stubs, W-2s or an offer letter to the address CCC Verify and the CFPB list: Attn: Verifications, Corporate Cost Control, 50 Nashua Road, Londonderry, NH 03053, and keep proof of mailing.
  5. Contact your employer’s payroll or HR office. The CFPB advises disputing with both the reporting company and the company that supplied the information.
  6. Keep copies of everything you send and receive.

Your rights under the FCRA

  • Accuracy (15 U.S.C. § 1681e(b)). CCC Verify must follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy of the job and pay information it reports.
  • Reinvestigation (§ 1681i). After a dispute, it must reasonably reinvestigate, free of charge, generally within 30 days, notify the employer that supplied the data, and correct or delete inaccurate, incomplete or unverifiable information.
  • File disclosure (§ 1681g). You may see the information in your file, its sources, and who received it.
  • Free copy after adverse action (§ 1681j). You are entitled to a free copy if you ask within 60 days after an adverse action notice.
  • Permissible purpose (§ 1681b). Your record may be shared only for a purpose the FCRA allows, such as a credit, rental or benefits application you made.
  • Adverse action notice (§ 1681m). A lender or landlord that turns you down based on a CCC Verify report must tell you, name the company, and explain your rights.

Can you sue CCC Verify?

Yes, when the facts support it. You may have a claim if CCC Verify reported job or pay information that was inaccurate without reasonable procedures to get it right (§ 1681e(b)), if it did not reasonably reinvestigate your dispute and correct the record (§ 1681i), or if it shared your record without a permissible purpose (§ 1681b).

For a negligent violation, you may recover actual damages, such as a lost loan or apartment, higher costs, and emotional distress, plus attorney’s fees and costs (15 U.S.C. § 1681o). For a willful violation, you may recover actual damages or statutory damages of $100 to $1,000, punitive damages, and fees and costs (§ 1681n). A lawsuit generally must be filed within two years after you discover the violation and no later than five years after it occurred (§ 1681p).
